You Know What’s Going On, Don’t You?
Do we need to rehash it all, or can we assume you already get the hint? The federal government has turned its office into a publishing house for imperialist media fiction, a machine engineered to spread a litany of lies and hate. But we remind you: believe what you see and remember what you know.
Trans, queer, and Two-Spirit people exist. No law, no order, no manufactured moral panic can erase our existence from schools or anywhere else. We are here, and we are not going anywhere. In our communities, real material needs must be met for us to survive, and that survival is a shared responsibility. Borders, drawn across stolen land, are nothing but mechanisms of control meant to limit our movement and stifle our freedom. We reject them as we reject all structures that seek to contain us, and build new ones that truly serve the people they are meant to serve.
The Black feminists of the Combahee River Collective wrote, “The major source of difficulty in our political work is that we are not just trying to fight oppression on one front or even two, but instead to address a whole range of oppressions.” This is the challenge we inherit, but it is also the path we choose. We meet it not just with resistance but with vision. GSA Network exists to defend, build, and transform spaces in service of TQ2S+ young people, so that we may live fully with autonomy, dignity, and delight. This is Devising Freedom, our organizational strategy.
Our powerful intersections of identity demand that we fight on multiple fronts. We urge ourselves and our network to ground ourselves in our people, to know where we come from and where we are. To study in order to sharpen, clarify, and define our values, politics, and strategies. To act in partnership with others to build a network strong enough to carry us through the crises of today and toward the liberation of tomorrow.
What we know is this: we do not wait for institutions to grant us rights they have no intention of upholding. We carve our own way. Our work is rooted in providing resources to the people around us, in ensuring that when systems fail, as they always do, we already have the networks in place to sustain ourselves. When a direct attack comes, we do not waver. We organize. We fortify our communities. We link arms with those who understand that survival is a collective act.
This work demands rigor, a commitment to liberatory logistics and the ability to envision a free future before it arrives. Our youth clubs must be strengthened to withstand the political moment, held together by those living at the intersection of race, class, gender, and sexuality, those who have always carried the heaviest burdens and yet continue to rise.
Let the queers before us remind us: an army of lovers cannot lose.
